TDK SPM Series Power Inductors

The SPM Series power inductors are metal composite wound inductors fabricated by integrally molding coils with metallic magnetic materials. Compared with ferrite wound inductors, they deliver high current capability, low DC resistance (Rdc) and compact dimensions, alongside excellent DC bias characteristics. Additionally, their low magnetic flux leakage effectively suppresses coil acoustic noise.
The SPM Series consists of integrally molded inductors with coils embedded in metallic magnetic materials. It features an extensive lineup including the low-profile SPM-LR Series, and automotive-grade variants such as the SPM-HZ, SPM-HZR, SPM-DZ and SPM-V Series.

Power inductors, also known as power coils or power chokes, are inductors designed for power circuits such as DC-DC converters. Inductors store energy via self-induction. DC-DC converters and other chopper circuits rely on the combination of power inductors and switching devices to convert voltage levels. (See Figure 9)
Inductors are categorized by manufacturing process into multilayer, thin-film and wound types. Wound inductors dominate the power inductor market due to their high current handling capacity; various product variants are built with ferrite or soft metal magnetic cores. Meanwhile, multilayer and thin-film inductors, which support miniaturization and low-profile designs, have been continuously optimized for higher current ratings in recent years.
