It is a 6‑axis MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) from TDK‑InvenSense. It integrates a 3‑axis accelerometer and a 3‑axis gyroscope. The suffix‑L denotes the LGA‑14 package version with dimensions of 2.5 × 3.0 mm and a thickness of 0.76 mm. As a low‑power consumer‑grade IMU, it acquires object acceleration and angular velocity to calculate attitude and motion status.

Key Parameters

Supply voltage ranges from 1.71 V to 3.6 V, compatible with lithium‑battery‑powered systems. Operating temperature spans ‑40 ℃ to +85 ℃.

The accelerometer supports multiple full‑scale ranges up to ±16 g, while the gyroscope reaches a maximum of ±2000 dps. Both deliver 16‑bit digital output. A built‑in 2.25 KB hardware FIFO buffer reduces reading load on the MCU.

I2C and SPI communication interfaces are supported. Typical current consumption for simultaneous 6‑axis operation is 0.55 mA, and sleep standby current is only 3.5 μA, delivering excellent power‑saving performance.

It features the hardware‑based APEX motion engine with functions including step counting, tilt detection, motion wake‑up, free‑fall detection and low‑gravity detection, eliminating heavy computation burdens on the MCU. It offers high shock resistance up to 20000 g and integrates programmable digital filters.

Applications

Optimized for low‑power consumer electronics. Typical use cases cover various wearable devices such as smart bands, smart watches and health‑oriented wearables for step counting, sleep monitoring and attitude recognition; TWS Bluetooth earbuds for wear detection, tap gesture recognition and motion wake‑up.

It is also adopted in small interactive devices including game controllers and air‑pointing remote controllers to capture hand‑rotation attitudes, as well as AR glasses for head‑tracking.

It applies to compact IoT devices such as asset‑tracking tags for monitoring vibration, drop and handling events, and handheld portable devices for screen rotation and motion detection.

It can be deployed for attitude sensing in small‑size drones, mini flight controllers and compact robots. Nevertheless, it is consumer‑grade and not qualified for harsh industrial or automotive environments and cannot replace industrial‑grade IMUs. Auxiliary attitude sensing and image stabilization for mobile phones are also common applications.
